Holy Spirit Baptism for a Christian

Should a Believer Seek the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift from God the Father, given in the name of the Lord Jesus to all believers who trust in this gift and earnestly seek it. However, many Christians today grapple with the doctrine of Holy Spirit baptism and whether it should be pursued. The answer is yes, and the Gospels and other New Testament writings support the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
The Lord Jesus Himself was baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, numerous Scripture passages affirm that the Lord Jesus is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. For example, see Matthew 3:11-12, Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:7-8, Mark 1:9-12, Mark 16:16, Luke 3:16-17, Luke 3:21-22, Luke 12:50, John 1:33, John 3:23, John 3:32-34, and John 3:34-35). A true believer in the beloved Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, should follow all the teachings and examples set by the Lord Jesus to live a faithful Christian life. After His bodily resurrection, while in Jerusalem with His disciples, the Lord Jesus instructed them to wait for the promise of the Father—the baptism in the Holy Spirit. He told them in Luke 24:49: “And behold, I am sending out the promise of My Father upon you; but remain you in the city, until you be clothed with power from on high.”
In Acts 1:4-5, Luke, speaking through the Holy Spirit, emphasizes the commandment and promise of the Lord Jesus: “He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father: which you heard of Me; for John indeed baptized with water; however, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days after these.” In Acts chapter 2, we witness the Holy Spirit descending upon the disciples: “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance”Acts 2:4. The baptism in the Holy Spirit, which is the promise of the Father, is intended for all believers in the beloved Son of God, not just for those who were present in Jerusalem at that time.
In Acts 2:38, Peter preaching to the multitude says, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” This saying indicates that the gift of the Holy Spirit—the most powerful gift from God—is available to anyone who is ready and prepared to receive it. First, one must repent of their sins and preferably undergo the baptism of repentance in water in the name of the Trinity of God (God the Father, God the Son, Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit). After this, if one seeks the baptism in the Holy Spirit and is ready, the Holy Spirit will come to baptize them if they ask this gift from the Trinity of God in the name of the Lord Jesus.
The baptism in the Holy Spirit completes the salvation seal, signifying that the human spirit has joined the believer’s salvation seal. Speaking in tongues serves as a sign for the believer that they have received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. For more detailed explanations regarding the baptism in the Holy Spirit and it signs, please refer to our comments on the following passages: Comments John 1:33, Comments John 3:5, Comments Matthew 16:18, and Comments Acts 2:2-4. When a believer’s spirit joins the salvation seal, the Lord God has a specific plan for that person, and the work of the Father will be carried out through this joining.
